TIPS FOR SUCCESS

ACTING TIP:

Self-Taped auditions have always been a convenient way for casting directors to review talent from a distance. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, this casting technique has become all but standard in the industry, so it is more important than ever to perfect the skill of the Self-Taped Audition. The most important things to remember are:
  1. Use a plain/undecorated, solid-color wall or backdrop behind you. Avoid taping in front of wrinkled sheets, busy walls or in busy rooms, and keep pets and other family members and friends out.
  2. Lighting should be behind the camera aiming toward your face, so the casting director can see you clearly. Avoid lighting that shines down onto your face, as well as lighting that comes from behind you.
  3. Unless otherwise requested, the audition should be taped in horizontal/widescreen orientation.
  4. Keep your slate as clear, short, and simple as possible, unless you are asked for additional information. If you are able to, you should consider taping a high-quality slate that you can reuse until your look changes.
  5. The self-taped audition is ALL ABOUT THE ACTOR, so make sure the focus is on you! Make eye-contact with the camera, and be sure to keep all off-camera sounds (including scene-partner lines) to a minimum!

SKINCARE TIP:

Eat a clean diet for better skin, hair, and nail health. The skin is the body’s largest organ, but it is also the last one to receive vital nutrients and hydration. Because of this, it often acts as a beacon to our overall health, as well. To keep your skin, hair, and nails as beautiful and resilient as possible, it is best to start with a clean, healthy diet, rich in organic and unprocessed foods and including plenty of water. If you are prone to split or spotted nails, dry scalp and hair, or acne breakouts and other skin conditions, consider limiting or eliminating your sugar, dairy, processed food, and/or gluten intake, as these foods tend to exacerbate underlying health conditions. Remember to keep your body healthy on the inside, so it can look healthy on the outside!
